Flash! Photography leads to new music discoveries!

It just amazes me what I have learned this evening. Last week I took picture portraits of the local volunteer fire department and I asked them to contribute to the BC Firefighters Burn Fund in exchange for a fee.

So in the process I just happened to check on what the NW Burn Foundation was doing and they had a guy there that I'd never heard of who was obviously a "big man" in the neighborhood and I had never heard of him. Well it turned out to be a famous hip-hop drummer Travis Barker.

A little more websurfing led me to yet another music yahoo which equally blew my mind.  I have to say, surfing the internet is much more mind blowing (educational) than what I used to do as a kid at the local public library looking for new music.  When I started to get on the internet tonight it was only to find out what burn organization I wanted the fire chief to make a donation to.  Instead I found out new music sensations.

deathrowradio is Chris Tate and Paul Christian Patterson. The pair have worked together as d_rradio for the past ten years, wooing hearts and minds with emotive adventures in sonic strangeness and melodic melancholy. Having now dropped the underscore from their name, the duo are also leaving behind the laptops and synthesizers to dive headlong into a more confrontational live concoction of trippy guitar riffs and pounding punk drums; raucous and wild, yet underpinned by hypnotic repetition. And Yummy is the result.

Just today, I was asked me what kind of music I liked... I'll have to listen more to this stuff to make a informed decision, but I don't think it's really going to appeal to me much, although I'm glad to know about it.

This is obviously an edge of the music world I had no idea even existed, thanks to taking some pictures for the local fire department.

Snaps of my trip home today

Coming home today on the bike, I had an opportunity to take a few pictures...  I sure feel lucky for my health and all the natural beauty around me.

I'm grateful.
